HISTORIA
CUBIRO STUDIO

Cubiro was born in late 2022, in post-pandemic Mexico City, in response to the growing demand for short-term rental spaces. It all began with a first project in Polanco that quickly caught the attention of JD’s clients, friends, and acquaintances.
Working by instinct, JD started with a briefing alongside his first client, which led to a Look & Feel and then a Mood Board. He selected every piece of furniture and, with his head for numbers and business, put a price on each one. That was the beginning of the Cubiro Process, in which Mood Boards became teaching tools, almost like catalogs.
From there came two more apartments in the same residential development as the first project. JD calls them “blank canvases.” Soon after came two more in other locations. In just six months he had completed a dozen projects, working on his own with a rotating crew of builders.
At that point it was time to consolidate the gains and learn from the best. It started with the AD Interior Design diploma program, offered in partnership with Condé Nast, where the Cubiro Process was isolated and refined. The program confirmed what was already working and aligned it with the standard language and processes of interior design.
JD is passionate about color, tropical style, Art Deco curves, and architecture, which has always fascinated him in films and on his travels. He also brought his appreciation for contemporary art and his frequent visits to museums around the world. All of this helped him sharpen his pencil, bring order to a jumble of ideas, and turn them into a system that adapts to each client’s world.
Over time, Cubiro expanded beyond short-term rentals and began designing spaces for people living in residential houses and apartments, as well as country homes. These projects brought the essence of the Cubiro Process into more personal, lasting settings, creating homes that reflect the identity of the people who live in them while raising their quality of life.
With his entrepreneurial mindset and sharp eye, JD found that the most common mistakes in architecture and interior design, and the ones that draw the most complaints, are blown budgets, missed deadlines, broken promises, and the dreaded “I’m done, you’ll never see me again,” which leaves clients with no warranty or post-delivery service.
Little by little, the team grew, and so did the number of successfully completed projects. The aesthetics and quality of each one kept rising.
From Cubiro’s perspective, this story is just beginning. The experience gained along the way is gold, because it lets the studio bring each client’s dream to life with a high level of professionalism. The goal is to keep raising the bar and create projects that endure, make history, and become icons of the future, always celebrating the beauty of being alive.
